Played 4 years at Oregon State. During his career he became one of the most best basketball players in OSU history. During his senior year Payton was featured on the March 5 1990 cover of Sports Illustrated as the nation's best college basketball player. An All-American in 1990 and 3x All-Pac 10 selection he also was named to the Pac-10's All-Decade Team. At the time of his graduation he held the school record for points field goals three-point field goals assists and steals. He was elected into OSU's Sports Hall of Fame in 1996. Payton became the #2 overall NBA pick in 1990 by the Seattle Supersonics. A 9x NBA All-Star and 1996 Defensive Player of the Year. He later won an NBA title in 2006 with the Miami Heat.
